End of Semester Notices for CS 141: FALL 2006 semester

Congratulations on completing this semester!

Practical Unix: Book signing

I am the author of the CS 141 text book: Practical UNIX. If you have purchased this book, I would be glad to sign it for you. You would have something to show that you took a class from the book's author and I would have one less book being sold second hand.

Class on Tuesday, Dec 12th is optional

There will be no lecture on Tuesday, Dec 12th and attendance will not be taken. I will be here in the classroom at 7 PM and you are welcome to drop by, esp. if you want help on the last homework assignment or quiz 2. If anyone missed the Final Exam, you may come to this optional class on Dec 12 to take a make-up exam but there will be a 4% penalty (unless you requested this exam date by the deadline). I will stay until 9 PM. I will only stay later if students in the classroom at 9 PM need more time.

When will the Final Exams be graded?

Your Final Exam should be graded within about 2 weeks after the in-class final exam. The first line of the notices in your class web site will tell you if Final grades have been posted yet or not.

How to find out your course grade

After I manually grade all the Final Exams, I will post the following on the class web site:

The college does not mail out grades. The college does have automated ways to check your grades, which you can review in the class schedule/catalog.

When will your class logins expire?

Your login/password will allow you to access the class web site for at least 6 months after the end of the semester, which should give you plenty of time to check your grade for this class.

Your telnet login will expire about 2 weeks after the end of the semester and all your files will be deleted.

Future classes to consider taking from me in the Spring 2007 semester

Request for feed-back

I hope you have found this class to be both useful and enjoyable. I understand that some of you did not have the time to put into the class that you had hoped. I also understand that everyone learns in different ways. I would be curious to hear some feedback from you: My email address is:

and I would enjoy hearing from you. Please don't worry about hurting my feelings as some of the best improvements in the class have resulted from complaints that students have shared with me. Your comments will not affect your grade.
