If you need help on a quiz question

I will need more than the quiz question number to help you because the questions numbers change each time you start the quiz. Copy and paste the whole question in an email to me, show me your best answer, and I will point you in the right direction.

Whenever you start a quiz, a new set of 40 questions will be chosen for you. You will have one hour to answer them, whether or not you stay connected to the Internet. (Exception: if you start the quiz after 11 PM on the last accepted day, you will only have until midnight, according to the system clock, to get points.)

If your Internet connection drops, or your computer dies, or you have an emergency at home, don't worry. You will get a poor score for that quiz but you can start the quiz over as often as you like. Only your highest one hour point total is counted, so it never hurts to start the quiz again, even if you don't have a full hour to work on it.

Click to resume the quiz whenver you want to continue to work on a quiz that you have started previously. If your Internet connection drops and you dial back in quickly, you can resume a quiz, which will keep the same set of questions, the same points you already had for right answers, and the same starting time.

If you did not get a perfect score, it is useful to resume a quiz after your hour is over, so you can work on the difficult problems until you get them right. You cannot get more points on the quiz after the hour is over, but your work after the hour will improve your understanding so you will do better when you start the quiz again.

Final Exam Info

No, the above was changed 11-10-2005. The final exam will only cover quiz 1 and quiz 2 topics. Any homework assigned after quiz 2 will not be on the final exam.

The rules for the Final will be the mostly the same as for the Quizzes.
e.g. the Final Exam will be open-book, open-note

The Final Exam will differ from the Quizzes as follows:

• The Final Exam will be a proctored, in-class exam given in shifts so that everyone will have their own station for the exam. The time you are to arrive will be posted (either the first half or the second half of your normal class time).
• You must be able to bring up your station and login all on your own.
• You must take the Final Exam in-class on the posted Final Exam day for this class or on a posted Make-up Exam day.
• There will be a 4 percentage point penalty to take the Final Exam on a Make-up Exam day unless you have arranged this with the instructor at least one week prior to the posted Final Exam day for this class, e.g. the penalty would lower a Final Exam score of 96% down to 92%.
• You will only be able to take the Final Exam once.
• In the quizzes, you must give a perfect answer to get a point. In the Final Exam, the instructor will manually grade your answers and will assign partial credit for a partially correct answer.
• On the Final Exam, don't spend too much time on a question if you have most of it correct.
